I liked the catchlights in Avery's eyes, even though the picture was really noisy (still not sure where I went wrong) testing the waters in manual mode....but wanted to do something I liked, and something different with this picture. Not sure where I went wrong technically, so any CC greatly appreciated! Thank you for looking :)

Settings: Iso 400 M mode ss 1/125 Aperture F/5.60..... converted to black and white with high contrast (Photoshop 5.0) and ran through noisewear.

I'm new to all of this, so I can't really help you with cc, but I think this is such a beautiful shot! I can't wait to see more of your work.

Great catchlights. Love the feel of this photo. Not sure about the noise aspect. Your ISO isn't so high that it should be a problem. I don't think the noise detracts from the photo at all though.

I love this photo. I can't understand why you would have noise with those settings either. I'm just starting out in manual, too. I'd love to hear what others think about it.
You've fixed it beautifully though.

Another noob checking in to say I LOVE this picture. It looks so real and gritty but totally soft and feminine at the same time. I think that whatever you did really worked for you.
The only thing I noticed just a bit was that her face is a bit blown but that looks intentional to me. Of course what the heck do I know. LOL

I'm really loving the moodiness of this picture. The conversion is great for the expression she has.

Great catchlights.
She's pretty.

What a beautiful shot, very sweet!

I love how moody this shot is! I would have guessed the noise came from a high ISO, but your ISO was only at 400. Did you have to lighten it up in PS at all? Sometimes that creates noise..otherwise, I'm clueless!! Great Shot!

Adrienne said...

Ohh yeah I did lighten it, because I accidently left it on Tungsten lighting....and there was a lot of natural light, could it be that? Thx for all the sweet comments! It's beautiful outside, I'm off to go find something to photograph!

the drama and mood in this shot makes me want to cry - I ADORE IT.

**you asked me what lens i was using on my holly bush picture. Well its was an 85mm using 1.8 1/125, wb cloudy, iso 100, fine jpeg, slight curves on CS2 with a touch of sharpening, a little dodge and burn.**

HTH :)

I'm just a beginner so I don't know enough yet to tell you anything but what a great shot. She is so sweet in the expression and black and white photos are just incredible. I love them!

beautiful shot.
yes, the lightening (spelling????) you had to do in ps created a bit of noise... i think everything you've done to this picture works to your advantage, though-- i love it!

very nice photo, and I love the mood that the lighting creates and your catchlights are awesome...

the only thing that I could think of that would really cause lots of noise is if the photo started out underexposed, then noise is sometimes created during the post processing...but I am by no means a pro...that just my experience.

GEORGOUS EYES! i maximized the picture and your dd's eyes just looked lovely. good job with the catchlights.
have you tried shooting in raw? it might help you, especially with the lighting situation.
TFS.
